Majuli Island

Majuli Island is the second largest river island in the world after Bananal Island in Brazil. It is in the river Bramhaputra, Assam, India. It was having approximate area of 1250 square km but due to erosion it has now area of only about 421 square kms.

1. It is the hub of Assamese Neo- Vaishnavite culture of 15th century, revered by Saint Srimanta Sankaradeva.

2. Wetland: A hot spot for flora and fauna. Many rare and endangered avifauna species including migratory birds arrive in winter. The Island is almost pollution free.
