Traditional Jonbeel Mela in Morigaon District of Assa

Jonbeel Mela
It is a threeday community fair held in the weekend of Magh Bihu (Assamese festival) especially during the third week of January every year. It is held at the historic place known as Dayang Belguri. The place is merely 5 km from Jagiroad in Morigaon district of Assam. It is connected by NH 37 from Guwahati. The distance from Guwahati to Jonbeel is about 55 km. Thousands of people are thronged into the historic mela where the local tribes are assembled and involved in the traditional barter system. It is a unique experience to witness the barter system.
It is interesting to see that all type of household items including furniture, vegetables,kitchen items to clothings are exhibteted in the mela.
